David Beckham Launches Skills DVD
England soccer ace David Beckham put young sporting hopefuls through their paces today when he launched his football skills DVD.
The Real Madrid star played headers and one touch football with the youngsters who feature in his new release, Really Bend It Like Beckham.
The 29-year-old England captain wore a black velvet jacket, jeans, a white T-shirt and sported a red ribbon to mark World Aids Day as he coached the schoolchildren in Oxford Street’s Virgin Megastore.
The DVD gives young football fans tips on taking corners, shooting and other skills including producing a Beckham-style free kick.
Football mad youngsters Jade Formaston, 13, from Coventry and Xavier White, 10, from north London appear in the DVD with six other British children.
They were all flown to Madrid for a week in January for filming after being selected in a national competition.
Jade said: “We had to send in our own video of us doing football skills and the best were then picked to appear in the DVD.
“I was really proud of myself, I didn’t think I would get in but I loved training with David.”
Xavier added: “David’s my favourite footballer he was really friendly and chatted a lot when we were in Madrid and my football’s improved a lot since then.”
The England football ace spent about an hour signing copies of his DVD at the music store, parts of which were brought to a standstill as shoppers tried to glimpse the sportsman.
